Natfly 2007

by Chris Sinfield

Well Natfly 2007(Narromine) has come and gone and for those of you that were not able to attend due distance and other reasons here is what happened in a quick update. We had 2, yes 2 flying Zodiac XL’s on display. Garry Sweetnam flew the XL down from the Gold Coast for the Zodiac Display and on Saturday Geoff More flew his XL up from Temora.  What a weekend, what a display, what talk among the crowd, there was so much interest that by Saturday lunchtime Garry had run out of XL information flyers. There was even interest from CASA and RAAust administration with comments about the new future of light aircraft. The display consisted of 2 identical aircraft side by side, one VH reg and the other RA reg, both aircraft up to 600kg, one with a Jab3300 and the other a Rotax 912, Quick build, kit build or scratch build.  The choices are now there for builders, maintainers and pilots all from the one aircraft. Who knows next year I hope to get 5 XLs for a formation flyby. (that would be a sight). Natfly also saw the first Zodiac gathering BBQ. It was really great to put faces to people’s names and get to know each other. There were about 15 XL builders, a couple of HDS builder/ flyers and even some 701 guys. All told about 25 people all gathered around the BBQ, munching on snags and talking to each other. We had a talk by Garry about what is happening with the Quick Build kits, we had a talk by the designer of the X Com Radio system and their custom zodiac XL installation package and a talk from Jabaru about their custom FWF package for the XL. There was lots of Q’s and A’,s and overall good feedback. Rotax was asked to give a talk but they do not do the FWF package, they just said, you would still have to buy that from Zenith and get the engine from Rotax in Australia.
